We are doulas dedicated to improving maternal health & early childhood outcomes in our community
How it all started
Originally funded out of a state legislative earmark intended to address concerns about maternal health equity in Massachusetts, the Pioneer Valley Doula Collaborative (PVDC) is now an independent organization dedicated to advancing birth equity in Western and Central Massachusetts.
In 2023, MassHealth started covering doula services under state Medicaid insurance. This previously out-of-reach support is now available to MassHealth-insured families, when they can find a doula to work with them. We match families with doulas and support services through our partnerships with service organizations in the community.
PVDC’s work addresses system-level gaps, by meeting the direct needs of individuals and families, while also building a resilient doula workforce.
In 2024, PVDC became one of the first organizations to focus on improving doula access for Medicaid-insured families in the state. Now, it serves as a hub for inclusive, comprehensive, community-based doula care in Western and Central Massachusetts.
